Rosemary Okumu Prof. Peters Introduction to Psychology 1113 October,3,2016 Difference in Tobacco Use Among Two-year and Four Year College Students in Minnesota A study was conducted to compare tobacco use rate between two-year and four-year college students and also surveyed demographic variables that predicted their behaviors and it was revealed that tobacco use on two-years was higher than four-year mainly because of poor campus tobacco-use policies and lack of proper health services. Tobacco is the leading cause of diseases and premature death in America. The country loses billions on productivity due to this effect. Smoking damages nearly every organ in the body, causing disorders which include cancer, heart disease, stroke, reduces health, asthma and emphysema. Oral injuries are associated with smokeless tobacco. According to the National survey on drug use and health, ages 21 to 29 reported highest cigarette use. The study was conducted on colleges and universities students. According to the National College Health Risk Behavior Survey, NCHRBS, s tudents who attend two-year institution were significantly more likely to smoke than students who attended four-year institution. The same organization also identified demographic differences which indicated two-year and four-year colleges were well organized.
